Engraver, painter, Mail-artist, UMBERTO BASSO attended the school of drawing "G. Vasi" under the guidance of the masters R. Bussi and M. Buonaccorsi. He started his activity in the sixties and since then he has been showing his works in many personal and collective exhibitions in Italy and abroad and collecting good critical appreciation which has earned him meaningful estimation. He is a member of the International Association of Graphics and of the Ce.S.A.Coo.P. Passionate and tireless researcher and experimenter, UMBERTO BASSO develops an instinctive impulsive painting which places itself beyond the restrictive limits of canvas and aims at subverting the surface illusionism. Rejecting to suit the mere formal demands, his work comes to be a poetical assertion of great expressive freedom. BASSO's research connotes itself as a poetics of sign, - a sign-writing which pervades surfaces and scans space - in which reality-memory-dream, history-myth-nature join in the joyful magic of visions. Continuously looking for a poetics of the essentials - lost in the contradictory labyrinths of the visible -, the Artist aims at the attainment of that faculty of creating which relates art to the mysteries of life.
